Nestlé has taken numerous steps to proactively transition its identity from a "food" company to a "nutrition, health, and wellness" company. One such step was its formation of a joint venture called Microbiome Diagnostic Partners in 2017 between its Health Sciences subsidiary and Enterome to develop and commercialize microbiome-based diagnostics. This was not Nestlé's first interaction with Enterome either, as it formed the JV a year after it participated in Enterome's $16.5 million Series C financing round.
