Computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines are automated machining tools often used in manufacturing metal parts that require tight tolerances. However, because of the large amounts of friction involved in the machining process, CNCs need to be recalibrated frequently. Manufacturers typically fly in specialists to recalibrate these machines, during which time the machine is taken offline for several hours.
