BAIC's battery swapping scheme for taxi fleets and private drivers grows in China

While in the U.S., battery swapping solutions have struggled, in China, they are finding certain levels of success. China is the biggest electric vehicle (EV) market in the world and, with extended subsidies for battery electric vehicles (BEV) until 2022, is looking to drive further growth in electrification of the mobility segment. In addition, the country is looking to establish a number of industry standards for electric mobility, tackling concerns around battery safety and promoting battery swapping. As a state-owned company, Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC) is following the Chinese government's plan of growing the number of battery swapping stations to support the growing number of BEVs in the country.
