Frac Water 2.0: Treat, Reuse, and Dispose

December 31, 2018 | State of the Market Report

E&P companies face two major hurdles in oil and gas water management: securing fresh water for drilling wells, and managing growing volumes of produced wastewater. Cost-effective water management is crucial to optimizing supply chain operations and is important if companies are to have the social license to operate. Today, produced water treatment in the U.S. represents a $2.2 billion market. Fraccing’s thirst for water should see the industry push for higher reuse rates and/or securing low-quality brackish water, creating an opportunity for a new crop of treatment technologies.
