Enel deploys Nozomi's anomaly detection system to monitor industrial control systems in the Italian power grid

May 29, 2018 | Case Study

Italy's electric transmission grid connects over 500 power generation plants across the country. Utility Enel owns and manages the grid infrastructure, and is responsible for monitoring and protecting the industrial control systems that control grid equipment and power plants. Power grids are at high risk of being targeted for cyber attacks, and even though worldwide there has only been one power grid cyber attack that has led to a power outage to date, attackers have successfully penetrated power infrastructure control systems on several occasions. Understanding this risk, Enel engaged industrial cybersecurity startup Nozomi Networks to implement its anomaly detection system in Enel's grid industrial control systems.
