Ginkgo Bioworks and Bayer Crop Science form joint venture Joyn Bio to use synbio for agriculture applications

Ginkgo Bioworks (Ginkgo) is one of the biggest names in the synthetic biology space, best known for its automated, high-throughput microbe design platform. Specifically, it integrates software, high-throughput analytics, and automated robots to prototype thousands of enzyme pathways and optimize strain design. Ginkgo primarily works with its customers to develop organisms to produce ingredients for flavors and fragrances and personal care and cosmetics, with a secondary focus on producing specialty commodity chemicals. The company has worked with numerous customers, including Ajinomoto, ADM, Cargill, and Robertet. Moreover, Ginkgo recently announced a joint venture with Bayer Crop Science, Joyn Bio.
