Walmart expands VR training

November 07, 2018 | Case Study

As one of the largest employers in the world, with roughly 2.2 million employees, Walmart needs methods for training an enormous workforce. Previously, the company had used tools like slideshow presentations to train employees. In 2017, Walmart purchased VR headsets from Oculus and software from VR company Strivr in order to offer a training solution at 200 of its training centers. The software enabled users to experience and interact with virtual re-creations of real-life situations at Walmart stores, such as managing Black Friday sales or handling a spill at a busy store. The headsets were linked to a larger video display so that other trainees could watch.
