Early this year, Qualcomm and Ford announced their support for cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) as the standard for connected cars. This won't change the companies' current, and long-standing, supplier-customer relationship; rather, it was a simultaneous announcement backing cellular communication protocols as the enabling communication technology for connected cars over DSRC/802.11p communication protocols. Qualcomm tested its 9150-C-V2X chipset solution throughout the first half of 2018 and plans to commercially roll out its solution in the second half of 2018. Ford began field trials of C-V2X technologies with multiple suppliers, including Qualcomm and Datang, with the intention to implement the technology in production vehicles.
