Ocean Beauty reduces product spoilage and determines effective supply chain routes using cold chain monitoring

October 4, 2018 | Case Study

Ocean Beauty harvests salmon off a remote coast in Alaska and ships it via air to Anchorage, Arkansas, and Seattle, Washington. The salmon is then transported as smaller shipments to other states in the U.S. From the harvest to the consumer, there are many switch points, such as high-speed ferries, barges, airports, and finally onto the aircraft. Needless to say, fish is a temperature-sensitive product, and going through many of these handshakes from a remote corner to a supermarket in New York necessitates continuous monitoring. Ocean Beauty faced expensive product losses and was undertaking risks when its product was left unmonitored or mishandled, affecting product quality and consumer health safety.
