DSM takes a string of sizable steps to expand its gut health offerings

November 13, 2018 | Case Study

DSM has already had gut health products within its portfolio for some time (e.g., Culturelle), but starting in late 2017, the company made serious moves to bolster its presence within the area. In December 2017, it acquired BioCare Copenhagen, a Danish company that specializes in the production of white-label probiotics and microbial actives. Shortly thereafter, DSM led a Series A funding round for Prenexus Health (Lux Take: Positive), a developer of a xylooligosaccharide (XOS) prebiotic derived from high-fiber sugarcane. In addition, DSM formed a distribution partnership with Prenexus Health, planning to market and sell the prebiotic under the name AmpliVida XOS after Prenexus completes construction of its manufacturing facility.
