Flexpower dynamic charging pilot offers faster charging with added grid stability in Amsterdam

Electric vehicles (EVs) continue to become cheaper, more widely available, and longer-range as automakers continue to invest in their development. With governmental support and consumers more interested in buying EVs, an emerging challenge is how to integrate them into the electrical grid. This is particularly true today, as some are deploying 350 kW DC fast-charging infrastructure – the equivalent load of a moderately sized office building – to charge an EV. In light of this, several proposed solutions have emerged, from offering demand response programs to exporting power from vehicles to provide ancillary services. An alternative approach called the Flexpower program, in which EV chargers could dynamically charge vehicles, was piloted in Amsterdam.
