Utilis' remote sensing solution triples leak detection efficiency to prioritize repair and reduce costs

November 29, 2018 | Case Study

In Italy, water distribution networks average 40% in water losses, which accounts for around 3.45 billion m3 per year, costing utilities $4.74 billion in lost revenue. Italian regulator Arera has issued a new rule (Resolution 917/17) that sets the level of water leaks as a macro-indicator for utilities' performance. Early detection of leaks to repair them before costly water main breaks occur is key to improving savings. Utilis, which spots leaks as small as 0.1 L/min within a buffer zone of 50 meters in radius using satellite images, is likely to benefit from Italy's enhanced focus on water efficiency. In partnership with local exclusive distributor 2f Water Venture, Utilis is ramping up its presence in the country, with more than 20 references in the field.
