Lockheed Martin pilots home energy management integrating smart home devices

In the U.S., the state of New York has been one of the leaders in exploring a variety of technologies and business models that will support the state's energy transition. For instance, New York's Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) initiative is promoting demonstration projects related to behind-the-meter energy storage, building energy efficiency, and virtual power plants. Moreover, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is in charge of promoting adoption of more energy-efficient technologies. For the residential segment, NYSERDA collaborated with Lockheed Martin (LM) Energy to build a home energy management (HEM) package for a group of single-family homes in New York State. The goals of the pilot were to identify the potential energy savings enabled by home energy management systems (HEMS) and evaluate how suitable smart home devices are for inclusion in utility energy-efficiency programs.
