PassivSystems' smart hybrid heat pump solution intends to decarbonize heat for homes in the U.K.

July 02, 2019 | Case Study

The domestic sector accounts for almost a third of the final energy consumption in the U.K., and 80% of this energy consumed in homes goes toward space and water heating. Because around 85% of heating systems are powered by natural gas, British organizations like Energy UK and the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) are tackling the decarbonization of heat in the residential sector to lower the country's carbon emissions. One example is the Freedom Project, a £5 million joint innovation initiative funded by Western Power Distribution and Wales & West Utilities and managed by PassivSystems, which intended to investigate the potential energy cost and carbon emissions reductions by installing a network of smart hybrid heating systems.
