Laird CoolZorb combines thermal management and EMI shielding in gap filler for mmWave devices and infrastructure

October 09, 2019 | Case Study

Laird Technologies recently launched a gap-filling material for use in these devices that combines both heat dissipation and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding capabilities. This material, based on Laird's data sheets, offers order-of-magnitude improvement over previous generations of CoolZorb, commensurate with the increased thermal output expected for 5G mmWave requirements. Numerous other companies, large and small, are pursuing a broad range of 5G thermal management solutions (see the report "Thermal Management Materials Innovation Landscape"), but this field is still actively developing, even as network operators and smartphone manufacturers are rolling out early 5G network infrastructure and devices.
