Diamond Green Diesel plans to expand production capacity to 1.1 BGY to support growing renewable diesel market

September 26, 2019 | Case Study

Diamond Green Diesel is a 50-50 joint venture between Valero Energy Corporation and Darling Ingredients formed in 2009. In the formation, the company built a 135 million gallon per year (MGY) renewable diesel facility in Norco, Louisiana, next to Valero's St. Charles refinery that began production in 2014. The Norco facility deploys Honeywell UOP's Ecofining hydrotreatment technology converting animal fats, used cooking oil (UCO), corn oil, and other forms of oil-based feedstocks into renewable diesel. In 2017, Diamond Green Diesel successfully expanded its production capacity to 275 MGY to meet the growing demand for renewable diesel in the U.S., largely driven by California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Renewable Fuel Standard.
