Kaia Health highlights the value of multimodality in treating chronic pain

December 05, 2019 | Case Study

Kaia Health offers a digital therapeutic that treats musculoskeletal pain via a multimodal platform. The platform includes a program customized to the patient using videos of physical therapy exercises coupled with motion tracking via a smartphone or tablet to ensure exercises are completed correctly and safely. The platform also offers mindfulness exercises designed using pain research to help treat the mental and emotional aspects of pain. Human behavioral coaches are also paired with every user for additional support as needed. Although not typically considered as part of the standard of care, mental health tools are necessary when dealing with pain. Chronic pain carries comorbidities of depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and in some cases psychosis, so it should not be a surprise that a recent study showed that the multimodal support offered by Kaia led to improved long-term outcomes over traditional physical therapy.
