Dow combines off-the-shelf robotics platforms with in-house development to remove workers from the most hazardous tasks in production

March 18, 2020 | Case Study

Dow began its robotics program in 2011 as part of a continuous improvement project focused on worker safety. In the years since, the program has grown to five regional robotics hubs around the world, which have defined a standard set of robotics solutions for safety applications to be implemented across the company's operations. Based on this work, Dow now uses robots and drones for inspection, elevated work, and industrial cleaning, which often require workers to be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions like working from a scaffold or entering confined spaces like tanks and pressure vessels.
