How Novozymes identified probiotics as an effective solution to supporting poultry gut health

April 06, 2020 | Case Study

Increasing concern about antibiotic resistance and changes in policy on growth promoters within livestock production have driven interest in the use of probiotics by the animal health industry. However, evidence of probiotics' beneficial influence on livestock intestinal microflora was formerly inconclusive. Despite this uncertainty, Novozymes, a leader in industrial enzymes and microbial solutions, partnered with major animal health company Adisseo in 2015 to develop and commercialize probiotic feed additives for supporting poultry growth. Within the alliance, Novozymes leads product development and production, while Adisseo manages sales and marketing.
