COVID-19 creates strong demand for AI-based thermal imaging cameras for smart buildings

April 03, 2020 | Case Study

China is ending its COVID-19 lockdown, which poses challenges in terms of how to avoid COVID-19 recurrence by efficiently detecting people with key symptoms like fever in public areas, mainly commercial and municipal buildings. An available solution is to use artificial intelligence (AI)-based thermal imaging cameras to detect the temperature of building occupants. One of the key developers of such cameras in China is Guide Infrared. The company's products can measure the temperature on building occupants' foreheads at a high capacity (500 persons/minute) and then calculate their body temperature. The company claims that the detection results have an accuracy within 0.3 °C. So far, the company's products have been deployed in buildings in multiple cities in China.
