COVID-19 brings unprecedented opportunities to test electronic textiles

May 08, 2020 | Case Study

One of the most serious challenges imposed by COVID-19 is the conflict between the need to minimize human face-to-face interaction and the surging demand for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of COVID-19 cases. One solution is to use AI-based thermal imaging cameras deployed in public areas to identify people with COVID-19 symptoms (especially fever) in a scalable and noncontact way. However, this solution still cannot solve the overwhelming imbalance between consumers' demands for timely health services and the limited capacity of hospitals. This unmet need creates unprecedented opportunities for electronic textiles, which continuously measure users' vital signs for preliminary screening as well as remote health monitoring.
