Equinor uses electrification to decarbonize offshore oil and gas operations in Norway

June 12, 2020 | Case Study

Oil and gas companies worldwide are under pressure to decarbonize their operations and are successively announcing targets for net-zero emissions. The use of fossil fuel for power generation is one of the major contributors to the industry's upstream emissions and therefore offers opportunities for decarbonization through low-carbon and renewable energy sources. Offshore operations present a particularly challenging sector to decarbonize from both a technical and cost perspective, but synergies with offshore power infrastructure open the door for grid connection opportunities.
