Global taste and nutrition company Kerry collaborates with IBM to develop trendspotting tool for new product inspiration

In November 2019, Kerry announced the launch of a new tool for its customers called Kerry Trendspotter. IBM developed the tool, this being the third instance of IBM creating product development resources for the food industry. Using IBM's Watson AI technology, Kerry Trendspotter predicts flavor, ingredient, and product trends at country-level granularity, using textual data from social media. It facilitates product development planning for 24 to 36 months out, where a trend will receive a score between 0.1 and 1, with a score closer to 1 indicating a near-term opportunity. Based on a recent conversation with Parth Patel, VP of Marketing and Strategic Planning for Kerry APMEA, the tool is now in its third version.
