Roambee's IoT solution helps pharma company reduce thefts in South Asia by increasing product visibility

September 07, 2020 | Case Study

Theft of drugs and pharmaceuticals was a major challenge for a global pharma company in South Asia, with an estimated one in 10,000 full-truckload (FTL) shipments hijacked each year in the region. The theft not only led to loss of materials but also had a direct impact on human lives due to the illegal underground sales of spoiled goods, often leading to legal repercussions for the drug manufacturer. In addition, the company had to run with ample buffer stock across its 30 distribution centers to ensure contractual agreements were met, which hurt its competitive edge in a cost-sensitive market. To improve product visibility across the supply chain, the company directed all of its logistics partners to deploy GPS trackers on trucks. However, the project failed, with only 10% of the trucks receiving GPS trackers despite the pharma company's mandate. The pharma company realized it needed a solution that offered firsthand visibility into shipments without relying on logistics partners and approached Roambee.
