Volkswagen building industrial IoT cloud for 124 factories with AWS and Siemens to standardize production planning and inventory management

Like many large manufacturers, Volkswagen's path to a unifying IIoT platform is blocked by a wide variety of disparate technology used across its more than 100 globally distributed plants and global supply chain comprising 30,000 locations. The lack of integration enables optimization of operations at a single plant but does not allow for a companywide view of material flow and machine utilization. The company's resolution is to unite the thousands of islands of technology with a common cloud-based infrastructure that can scale and provide standardization across plants, machines, and processes. The goal of the project is to increase plant productivity by 30% by 2025.
