Thorvald UV-C robot helps strawberry farm eliminate mildew

Interest is building in implementing robotics in agriculture, and robotic technologies are being used in areas like weeding, crop protection, and harvesting to reduce labor constraints, increase yields, and turn out high-quality products. Saga Robotics' Thorvald autonomous robotic platform uses UV-C treatment to reduce powdery mildew on tabletop crops like strawberries. Powdery mildew is an important disease that has developed resistance to chemical treatments, lowering yields and raising production costs. Thorvald has been trialed since 2019 on 12 hectares in the U.K., and in 2021 Saga demonstrated small-scale complete control of this fungal infection.
