Amid ongoing turmoil and news surrounding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, nations are scrambling to implement emergency strategies to help mitigate the situation. The impact of the invasion and resulting sanctions will be felt first in supply disruptions, particularly for key commodities, often resulting in price spikes. Oil and gas have received the most attention, particularly due to much of Europe's reliance on gas exports from Russia; consumers as well as businesses will need to be prepared to deal with global price spikes and even localized lack of availability.
As a response, the U.S. White House has considered leveraging the Defense Production Act or funds from the U.S. Department of Defense in order to supply heat pumps to the EU as a move to allow EU nations to decrease their reliance on Russian oil.
