We Drive Solar partners with Hyundai to expand the company’s V2G fleet but loses revenue by ineffective V2G implementation

May 06, 2022 | Case Study

The electrification of the transport sector is in constant growth. According to our previous report, it is expected that in 2030, over 100 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will be deployed. Therefore, it is important to understand the multiple opportunities that these assets represent, as EVs can turn into essential assets to support the energy grid. Considering that with the implementation of renewable energy technologies, power generation becomes unpredictable, in addition, BEV fast charging poses a potentially large threat to grid stability, as the push for faster and faster charging intersects with steep growth in EV sales. Therefore, the application of smart charging capabilities by controlling these flexible power-consuming assets effectively will play a key role in preventing major disruptions in the electric grid and maintain the power balance. We Drive Solar, a mobility operator in the Netherlands that developed an EV car-sharing platform, will deploy 25 new units for both car sharing and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) services in Utrecht.
