In Sweden, the implementation of rooftop solar photovoltaics (PV) has been in constant growth over the last 10 years, having accumulated a total capacity of approximately 1 GW by the end of 2020 with a total share of more than 60% of energy use from renewable energy sources. This growth can be attributed to the high maturity and low price of the technology. Logicenters, a company developing logistic properties in the north of Europe, is building a facility in BÄlsta, Sweden. According to the developers, the facility will be one of the largest rooftop solar parks in the Nordic region, consisting of approximately 16,000 solar panels used to provide electricity under a power purchase agreement (PPA) to the property tenant: Axfood, a food retailer from Sweden. Considering that food handling accounts for almost 50% of the total energy use in the food value chain, it is important to evaluate and analyze the approximate consumption of the energy facility and observe if the expected PV array will be able to generate sufficient energy to power Axfood facility and the different benefits of signing a PPA.
