With a goal to deploy 8-GW stationary fuel cells by 2040, the Korean government and companies have been ramping up efforts to install new fuel cell units. As part of a contract worth USD 4.5 billion, Bloom Energy is collaborating with SK Ecoplant to build a 4.2- MW SOFC-powered CHP plant in Donghae City. Bloom Energy will design and build the vertically stacked solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) in a pillar architecture, while SK Ecoplant will be responsible for the heat recovery system. This project is Bloom Energy's first attempt to break into combined heat and power (CHP) and is currently under construction.
