Coca-Cola charts a path toward meeting recycled-content targets despite constraints

January 27, 2023 | Case Study

The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC), through its subsidiary Coca-Cola Philippines, has built the first Filipino polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling plant through a joint venture with Indorama Ventures (IVL). The USD 42 million facility, called PETValue, was completed in October 2022, and is expected to process 30,000 tonne/y of PET bottles to produce 16,000 tonne/y of food-grade recycled PET. The facility "closes the loop" for TCCC's efforts in the Philippines, where the company has partnered with Plastic Bank and the local government to educate the population on bottle recycling and to set up over 800 collection points for used packaging.
