ADM has been keen on growing its gut health offerings, starting with the acquisition of Protexin in 2018. Over the past couple of years, the company has also expanded its existing product categories to accommodate new application areas. While the financial details of Deerland's acquisition are not yet known, this deal will complement ADM's existing probiotic solutions by adding other microbiome modulators like prebiotics, bacteriophages, and enzymes. Deerland's solutions focus on both dietary supplements and functional food and beverage ingredients, opening up wider opportunities. As outlined in our recent report, upstream ingredient players should diversify their microbiome modulation offerings by adding synergistic products.
