Governments, municipalities, and consumers are turning their attention to building energy performance, with mandatory disclosure becoming more common. Existing buildings must lower consumption, both to comply with legislation and respond to market pressures. Accounting for any energy upgrades comes from measurement and verification (M&V). In this report, we examine the current landscape of M&Vofferings, and evaluate new entrants using the Lux Innovation Grid. We found that a transition from periodic reconcilation to real-time performance tracking is occurring, enabled by a host of new entrants, both in sub-metering hardware and data analytics products. These offerings will enable M&V to expand across building segments, and offers exciting opportunities to manage buildings more effectively using this “Big Data.”
