As the volume of touch-screen-based devices continue to increase, haptics remain a rapidly shifting field, and key players continue to refine their strategies. For example, Samsung has recently invested in electroactive polymer (EAP) developer Novasentis, but does not appear poised to introduce the more mature ceramic piezoelectrics. In this report, we update our prior haptics forecast and find haptics grows into a $9.8 billion opportunity by 2025, led by $9 billion coming from consumer electronics applications. Public interfaces are the second-leading application and grow to a $586 million market in 2025. The ceramic piezoelectrics market will grow rapidly through 2021, peaking at $1.3 billion, comprising 21% of the total haptics market, but will eventually fall behind surface coverage haptics –electrostatics, electroactive polymers, and microfluidics – that grow into a $3.7 billion 2025 opportunity, or 37% of the total haptics market.
