Innovating and Networking in Fuel Cells - Analyzing the Key Players in Today’s Hydrogen Infrastructure Value Chain

We focus on the issues facing the hydrogen (H2) infrastructure problem, analyzing which companies are innovating the most, and how they work together. We find that a select handful of automakers and their OEM suppliers top the innovative charts, supported by a few other parts of the hydrogen value chain. Within the partnership web, three Japanese automakers are best positioned, but industrial gas giants are also well positioned. Overall, we find the H2 economy is evolving in an isolated, Japan-specific way, trending towards a so-called “Galapagos syndrome”.
