Using patent analysis to identify innovation leaders in flexible displays

As more devices with novel form factors are developed, from smaller devices such as smartphones and smartwatches to larger devices like televisions, the need for flexible display innovation has also increased. With multiple approaches and display technologies used to advance flexible displays, a close look at patent activity in this area reveals innovation leaders and emerging approaches. While liquid crystal display (LCD) technology has the most flexible display patent activity, attention is beginning to shift to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technologies. LG is the innovation leader in flexible displays, with an interest in all four display technologies; however, Samsung is a close second.
