The 2019 Lux Competitive Benchmark for Large Chemical and Material Companies

Although it’s a mature and well-established major industry, the chemicals and materials sector still requires significant innovation. Major challenges include shifting feedstocks, new digital business models, sustainability, and fast-changing consumer preferences. To assess who is positioned to succeed, we’ve analyzed 43 top chemical and material companies using the Lux Competitive Benchmark (LCB), which scores companies based on innovation effort and business execution. We’ve also examined the type of innovation these companies are engaged in – internal versus external innovation and engagement in emerging technology areas.
