Hexavalent chromium has been the gold standard for decades; however, health and environmental concerns have led the industry to look for alternatives. Lux looked at early-stage innovation within academia and the startup space to find any signs of disruptive technologies that can go head-to-head with incumbent anti-corrosion technologies. While Lux did find a number of new solutions being developed, future adoption of material informatics will be the true disruption in the corrosion protection industry, as it can potentially accelerate materials development and yield high-performing corrosion inhibitor alternatives.
