COVID-19 defined digital transformation in 2020. As the disease spread rapidly across the world, governments were forced to impose lockdowns, and the global economy came to a halt. There was one single goal that all organizations were working towards - reducing infection risk for workers and consumers while ensuring that the economy chugs along. Overnight, the world moved online and organizations were forced to adopt tools to enable automation and remote work. While this led to rapid acceleration in digital transformation, it also exacerbated disparities in digital maturity across industries and functions.
