The State of MWNTs: From Damascus to Motown

April 29, 2010 | State of the Market Report

The multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) landscape is transforming, with leaders and new entrants performing massive scale-up. Global production capacity will increase by over four times by the end of 2011 compared to 2008 levels, and suppliers expect prices to drop to $50/kg as a result. With improved economics, continued technological development, and global warming heating up demand for fuel-efficient cars and renewable energy, demand for MWNTs will grow from 158 tons in 2009 to 4,138 tons in 2020, expanding the market for MWNTs and its nanointermediates from $75 million to $513 million – though growth will not come easily.
