Webinar: Inverting the System: When Heat Becomes the Specialty Energy and Electricity the Commodity

In the energy system as we know it, we use heat to generate electricity through gas or steam turbines, internal combustion engines or heat engines. As a result, heat is the staple energy form. Heat is cheap and abundant; electricity is the specialty that’s versatile and convenient to use but expensive. Wind and solar power are not made through heat, however. In the decarbonized future, electricity is the main energy form and heat is expensive, as it is made from electricity and should be used only for special purposes. In this webinar, we explore what this means for the use of energy in the industry and the built environment. We will show both the opportunities and the pitfalls of the future of heat and answer the following questions: Which current uses of heat can be electrified, and how? How can you convert your assets from heat to electricity? How do you supply heat to those processes that cannot be electrified?
