Webinar: Technology Scouting Benchmarks and Best Practices from Lux Research and the Industrial Research Institute

December 12, 2012

Description

Identifying technologies from outside the company, bringing them in, using them to enhance existing products or create new ones – this process of technology scouting and open innovation is increasingly vital to research and innovation at large companies. However, for many organizations and individuals, the process is unfamiliar – benchmarks are unclear, and best practices unknown. Even for those executives who are best at it, the challenges of training new employees, educating the rest of the organization, and overcoming institutional inertia can still be daunting. Lux Research and the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) have partnered to create a Technology Scouting Program that will help companies develop and improve their technology scouting programs. This year-long effort has studied tech scouting efforts at 150 companies around the world, and provides members with ongoing research and insight into best practices. This webinar will highlight some of the key sample findings from the Program for IRI member and Lux Research clients, from topics covered in the Program, such as:

  • Finding and training the right individuals to be scouts
  • How to create an effective scouting organization
  • Identifying business-driven needs to scout for
  • Accessing the right sources for external technologies
  • Having effective contact and interactions with tech developers
  • Ensuring that technology hand-off to businesses works well
  • Creating metrics to judge and shape scouts and scouting programs
