Globally, over 30 GT of carbon dioxide is emitted per year, led by power generation, transportation, and industrial processes. Over the years many efforts have been made to curb carbon dioxide emissions, predominantly addressing the power generation sector through renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro. However, the transportation and industrial sectors continue to lag behind as the debate over indirect land use change (ILUC) and the delusion of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) becoming an economically viable solution leaves unanswered questions on how carbon dioxide emissions can be successfully reduced in these respective sectors.
